interventionS & SUPPORTS

South lake cares

Take care of yourself.

Take care of each other.

Take care of our school.

PBIS is a whole school behavioral support system that focuses on celebrating student success instead of focusing on discipline. To promote student success, South Lake has three expectations for students: Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. Take care of your school.

Focusing on the positive, allows staff to target and provide extra support to students who struggle with reaching expectations. The goal of PBIS is to help students achieve, not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

Students are able to earn "Shark Cards" from staff for showing South Lake expectations. This reward system allows students to save up cards and exchange them for prizes at the Shark Shoppe, Wheel of Fortune and Plinko! The Shark Shoppe is open every Friday during lunch. Along with exchanging Shark Cards at the Shoppe, there are various events throughout the year for students to participate in that are hosted by the PBIS Coaches.

First Shark Trappe of the year!

December 11, 2019
For the December mile, there were several staff members that were "trapped" to run in place of the students. South Lake's IT Specialist, Mr. Barnes, was shark trapped by Hana while my student teacher, Mr. Schaner, had to run the mile for Joshua. They both did an awesome job completing the mile with my 4th period class and finishing with amazing time. I was shark trapped by Parmida  and had to complete the mile with Mrs. Benner's EDPE class. We had a blast joining in and exercising with all the students!

Shark Trapping the PE Team

May 8, 2019
For the last mile run of the school year, a group of students purchased the Shark Trappe prize and chose Coach Manalo, Coach Banuelos, and myself to run their mile run during their class period. We decided to join in on the fun and dressed out for class in our PE shirts. Since the class and coaches need to warm-up for the mile run, I had the girls that trapped us lead the class through the stretches and warm-up activity. During the mile run, the girls kept track of everyone's time and provided positive encouragements for every student. The Shark Trappe prize will be available again for the next school year. Hopefully I don't get trapped again!

"Secret Menu" Item

Picture
April 10, 2019:
Although it may not be on the Shark Shoppe menu, I have posters of NBA players that students can purchase with their shark cards. Luka (pictured right) has been saving up for these posters and spent 60 shark cards for 3 posters: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Luka Doncic. Come check out my collection and see if there's a poster of your favorite NBA player!

Shark Trap

February 12, 2019:
This year's Mile Challenge featured a few staff members joining in on the fun because they were Shark Trapped by one of their student. Mr. Lee came out to EDPE (0 period) class bright and early to run the mile for Aadi S. who's in his English class. Mr. Lin, from the History dept, also came out to EDPE because Jon S. picked him to run the mile while Jon cheered on Mr. Lin. In 4th period PE, Mason R. decided to shark trap Coach Manalo, my student teacher, to run the mile for him.

Sharks @ a Crossroads

February 6, 2019:
One of the hottest addition to the Shark Shoppe this year was the Sharks @ a Crossroads prize. Students can purchase this prize for 80 shark cards to have the opportunity to go off-campus for lunch with a friend at the nearby Crossroads plaza. For the month of February, we had 7 students purchase this item and they decided to have lunch at the Woodbridge plaza instead. It was a beautiful day for a walking field trip and the students really enjoyed their lunch.
